Many Ways to Participate...
Kirtan is devotional singing, an immersive group meditation that uplifts and elevates the spirit. Each day, we come together to sing verses from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Singing these sacred verses (called Shabads) together creates a powerful and healing sound current that moves our human consciousness from darkness into light.
Guru Ram Das Ashram is happy to be able to offer classes that enrich the spiritual lives of its members. We offer weekly Kundalini Yoga & Meditation classes as well as Children's Celestial Communication classes each Sunday. Additionally, Gurmukhi language classes are offered on a regular basis.
Langar is a tradition of maintaining free kitchens in Sikh Dharma dating back hundreds of years. Guru Ram Das Ashram freely serves simple, nourishing lacto-vegetarian meals four days a week to anyone who comes to be served. All are served freely and equally to promote community, equality, and peace.
Guru Ram Das Ashram is part of the wider family of non-profits that seek to promote the teachings of Sikh Dharma and Kundalini Yoga so people can have happier, healthier, and holier lives.
Ishnaan Seva is a devotional practice of cleaning the Gurdwara marble with milk and water. It is a time to uplift our own personal projection as well as that of the wider L.A. community.
Kirtan Programs
Kirtan is performed each morning Mon-Fri starting at 6:45 - 7:15 AM, you can start the day by uplifting your soul with divine melodies.
Kirtan programs feature musicians from the Guru Ram Das Ashram community and guest ragis visiting from the various gurdwaras of Southern California as well as other parts of the world. Everyone is welcome to visit the ashram to experience music that connects the soul to the divine.
Our main Kirtan Program happens each Sunday starting at 11:00 AM. Additionally, we offer special Kirtan Programs during Sikh holidays and on the 6th of each month. Check out our calendar for our full schedule.
Missal System
Most tasks necessary to maintain the Gurdwara are performed by volunteers organized into teams called Missals. Opportunities to serve and meet other community members include:
- Langar preparation, serving and clean-up
- Reading during the late night hours of the Akhand Path
Anyone who feels a connection to Guru Ram Das Ashram and wishes to be an active participant is welcome to join a Missal. All it takes is to contact the Community Coordinator at (310) 201-0954 or coordinator@gururamdasashram.org.
Classes
We offer many classes here at Guru Ram Das Ashram to deepen your spiritual practice.
A long-running class is our Children's Celestial Communication class. This offering happens every Sunday at 11:45 am. Children learn about music, mantra, and a simple form of meditation called Celestial Communication which is done by connecting hand movements to song.
For more information about our current offerings, please check out our calendar.

Ishnaan Seva
At Guru Ram Das Ashram, we are blessed to do Ishnaan Seva, or "Marble Washing," once every month, from 3:45 am - 5:50 a.m. throughout the year.
Listening to kirtan and chanting the Mool Mantra, we vacuum the rugs, wash the marble walls and floor with milk and water, and decorate the Siri Guru Granth Sahib with fresh ramalas, cleansing and uplifting ourselves as well.
Come join us. All are welcome.
